Arbidol is an antiviral drug, from the former Soviet Union Pharmaceutical ChemistryResearch Center developed, the main indication is Class A, B type influenza viruses that cause influenza, while some other respiratory virus infection may also have antiviral activity.
Indications
Arbidol spatial structure with another well-known anti-influenza virus drug “Tamiflu” (oseltamivir) is similar, while its low-cost synthetic route is more short, it’s the firstsynthesis of time and also the first time to market much earlier than Tamiflu, but the currentclinical application and influence Queyuanburu Tamiflu. This is because the patent holderof Tamiflu Roche strong commercial operation skills, aswell as Arbidolantiviral effect has not been recognized, there have been reports it as “very effective”, while the other Some reports have expressed doubts.
Drug experiments and clinical reports mainly from Russia and China, which reported onthe ability to inhibit the virus and Tamiflu (oseltamivir) is as effective, which means that itmay be a better fit Bida Fei public purchasingpower, cost-effective prevention and control of bird flu drug. Even reported that its in vitro experiments showed anti-SARS virus.
virus infections than preventingmore effective influenza virus is an RNA virus. Arbidol or a drug candidate againsthepatitis C (the same is an RNA virus) Arbidol is the name of a novel antiviral drug completely unknown in the West, but quite popular in Russia and in China. It is a fusion inhibitor with immunostimulatory properties and has a quite unique structure .The drug has been extensively used in the russian military, and few side effects have been reported, while the beneficial action of stopping flu and cold symptoms is universally known. The compound arbidol was created by the Center for Drug Chemistry in Moscow more than 20 years ago and is licensed for use as prophylaxis and treatment for influenza A and B infections in Russia. Arbidol has recently been shown to inhibit various human respiratory RNA viruses, including several strains of influenza A and B, RSV, parainfluenza type 3 (PIV3) and rhinovirus 14, as well as the avian coronavirus, infectious bronchitis virus, and Marek disease virus, an avian oncogenic herpesvirus. Its antiviral activity, expressed as 50% inhibitory concentrations in cell culture, for influenza A and B, RSV, PIV3, rhinovirus 14, poliovirus, IBV, and MDV, was 0.22 to 11.8 µg mL-1 . These findings confirm earlier clinical data from Russian workers that arbidol could be considered for use as a broad-spectrum antiviral.
Mechanism
The drug has the effect of immune modulators, while influenza A and influenza B and a special anti-viral activity. It can prevent the flu virus and host cell membrane shell contact, adhesion and fusion .On the other hand, it can also induce host cells toproduce interferon, and stimulate thehumoral response and macrophage phagocytosis.
